Taking A Look At The Dualsense - The PS5 Controller
The new generation of consoles is truly on the horizon and we couldn’t be any more excited!
At the moment, we know very little about the PS5 other than the console’s specs and that load times will be tiny. But recently, we have finally been given a massive glimpse of the package with the unveiling of the new controller. Sony has pulled out all the stops as the new iteration will be following the dualshock4 which, in my humble opinion, is one of the best controllers ever made.
One massive new feature which will be welcome news to all my fellow headset losers/breakers is that there is a built-in microphone array. This means even if you don’t have a headset you can still stay connected with your friends online, although I imagine a headset would still be far more beneficial for a longer play session!
Another massive feature is the added adaptive triggers, this should increase your immersion whilst playing a game, an exciting example they gave is when drawing your bow the triggers may offer far more resistance the longer you hold it which gives developers the freedom to make the gamer actually feel part of the world they’re playing in!
For the buttons, there is no longer going to be a “Share” button as there was with DualShock 4 and although it will no longer be there, it’s definitely not going away, they are bringing us a new “Create” button feature. With Create, it provides new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves. There isn’t much more information on this yet but they have said that we will receive more information on this closer to the release.
The final big feature that was revealed is haptic feedback. This is said to add a variety of powerful sensations you’ll feel when you play, such as the slow grittiness of driving a car through the mud. As well as this, they have also incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions.
The look of a controller is almost as important as the features for me and this is where Sony has made the biggest changes.
The Dualsense is a big departure from Sony’s usual controller design as the Dualsense kind of looks like a blend between an Xbox and a Sony controller due to its bulkier body compared to the Dualshock 4 that have longer, thinner bodies. I do quite like the brand new look but I’m not the biggest fan of the color scheme. This is the first time Sony has gone for two colors on their base controller and it has been quite a talking point between fans!
Overall, I do prefer the look of the Dualshock 4 as when you see that, you just think PlayStation but I just don’t get that with the Duelsense due to the colors and its bulkier body.
In my opinion, the name change and the new look they have chosen show that Sony seems to want to go in a brand new direction this generation with their design of the controller. This leaves me intrigued to know if their console is also going to receive the same treatment and look radically different from what we’ve seen before.
Either way that end of year release date can’t come quick enough and I am excited to see what else Sony will bring to the table in the new generation of gaming.
Now that’s all I currently know about the new Dualsense controller, but What do you think about the new PS5 controller? Let us know on social media!
